Who's behind this

Nick Flournoy

Founder, weeklyescapes

Hi. I'm Nick. I built weeklyescapes.com because I was tired of corporations reaping all the benefits with zero accountability, charging whatever they want, blaming COVID, and reporting record profits in the same quarter.

Background

I'm an engineer who builds things on the side. weeklyescapes is one of those things. It's not VC-backed. There's no team. It's me, an AWS account, and a manifesto.

How to reach me

This is not a fund-backed startup

No investors. No growth board. No content marketing agency. No ad budget. The numbers on /stats are the actual numbers. The decisions on /decisions are the actual decisions. The progress on /building is the actual progress.

If something is broken, it's broken because I haven't gotten to it yet. If something is missing, it's missing because we haven't built it. Per the manifesto: we tell the truth.

Why "build in public"?

Two reasons.

One: in a world where any solo dev can ship a working SaaS in a weekend with AI tools, the only real differentiation is who you trust. Trust comes from showing your work over time. So I show the work.

Two: the manifesto says corporations hide their economics so they can charge whatever they want without accountability. The most direct way I can demonstrate that I'm building something different is to publish everything: code, decisions, research, costs, mistakes.

It's not a marketing tactic. It's the brand.

What I'd love your help with

If you're an extended-stay traveler (digital nomad, slowmad, family slowmad, business traveler on a 1-12 week assignment), sign up for the email list at the top of the homepage. I'll email you when there's something real to look at.

If you have feedback on the manifesto, the decisions, or the spec, open an issue on GitHub or email me. Especially if you think I'm wrong about something.

If you work at Coliving.com, Sonder, Blueground, BridgeStreet, Marriott Executive Apartments, or any other extended-stay supplier, let's talk. We send qualified traffic and we're transparent about what we earn.
